There’s a cozy Korean restaurant located at the Golden Triangle, Bayan Lepas. With its friendly atmosphere and cute white chick adorning it’s bright yellow signboard, it’s no wonder that Sam Gye Bab steals the attention whenever we are in the area.

Their kitchen is located right next to the entrance with glass windows that allows you to peer inside and watch the chefs prepare your meals. Also to add, the kitchen uses halal certified ingredients and the chefs that man the kitchen are also Muslims.
Signature Dish
One of the standout dishes at Sam Gye Bab is their namesake dish, Sam Gye Bab – the fire grilled Korean chicken. It is a popular Korean roasted chicken with scorched rice known as 누룽지 통닭 (Nurungji Tongdak). Nurungji means scorched rice and tongdak means roasted chicken. The chicken is served on a hotplate and you can choose to accompany it with spicy tteokbokki or cheesy corn.
Stews
Another must-try dish is the samgyetang, which is a Korean ginseng chicken soup. This hearty soup is made by stuffing a whole chicken with sweet rice, garlic, jujubes, and ginseng. It is then simmering it in a savoury broth until the meat is tender and the flavours have melded together. The result is a rich and flavourful soup that is perfect for cold or rainy days. Many believe that the soup has health benefits such as boosting the immune system and improving digestion. So, should you be looking for a delicious and nourishing soup, be sure to give this samgyetang a try.
If you are craving a soup with a spice, you can try their Spicy Doenjang Jjigae. This stew uses a spicy soybean paste that is simmered with potatoes, zucchini, squid, enoki mushrooms, soft tofu and egg. Their soup comes with a serving of hot steamed rice and kimchi. You can also make it into a combo meal with the options of having sides and a drink or even bingsu. We added the Grilled Potatoes as a side to our meal but the potatoes were unfortunately disappointing as it was not cooked till soft and the topping was just cheese and sauce that was torched for a smoky flavour.

To complete your meal, be sure to order some of Sam Gye Bab’s refreshing and flavourful drinks. They offer some traditional Korean drinks such as Korean Malt Tea and Korean Honey Jujube Tea. You can also try their bingsu which comes in the flavour of mixed berries, Hershey’s chocolate or ujikintoki (matcha).
Whether you’re a Korean food enthusiast or just looking to try something new, Sam Gye Bab is definitely worth a visit.
