Little Hunan Cuisine 小湘厨

This time round we had “travelled” to the southern province of China with our tastebuds. Little Hunan Cuisine 小湘厨 at Nagore Road boasts classic signature dishes that are hot and spicy. To keep the dishes served warm, most of it are served on a portable gas stove.

One of the many popular dishes is the Little Hunan Hot and Sour Fish Fillet; also commonly named Suan Cai Yu (酸菜鱼), that we love so, so much! Slices of fish poached in silky white fish broth with pickled mustard greens and numbing chillies, just simply addictive.

The next favourite we ordered was the Little Hunan Spicy Chicken Claypot. As mentioned in the name of the dish, it is served in a claypot with a portable stove. The tender chicken is cooked in dark sauce with onions, cloves of garlic and loads of dried chillies. Don’t be intimidated by how it looks though, the flavours are perfectly balanced and chillies did not murder our tongues – so we drowned our bowls of white rice with the sauce till it was all gone.

We also tried their Stewed Prawns. A very simple dish of fresh prawns stewed in soy sauce and green onions – recommended if you’re not a fan of chillies. Besides seafood and poultry, they do have beef, pork and paddy frog as their proteins.

But of course, no meal is complete without vegetable dishes. Their vegetable dishes are mainly stir fried in scorching heat and a combo of chilli and spices. We had the Hot and Sour Potato – julienned potatoes stir fried with chillies and vinegar, a personal favourite. Next, the Eggplant with Long Beans – crisp on the outside and not soggy eggplants! Our mums are definitely happy to know we finished all our vegetables.
